On Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 I attended my first tech focused networking event, the New York Technology Meet-up, As I stated on Tuesday's post this event gives 4 companies 15 minute each to demo their product.
I had a good time at the event. While being somewhat of a fish out of water, I had the power of Twitter on my side. Attending, along with a few dozen participants was Avi Feld, aka @quertis, who I got to know prior to the event. He's looking to create a unique product that would be of benefit to a lot of Human Resources professionals. Stay tuned for more on that.
Along with Avi, and his colleague Daniel, there were others I got to meet through Twitter and the event's hashtag #NYETM. Two notables ones (for me at least) were Tom Santero (@tsantero), Technical Evangelist from Basho and Diego Prats (@mexitlan) from Spire.Io. During their presentations they displayed enthusiasm, an ability to think on the fly and, appropriate enough for the setting, not be afraid to talk trash about competitors. They believed in what they had to offer and it showed.
To top things off I, the lone HR person in the room, won a prize! I now have a silver pass to the Info360 show, to be held at the Javit's Center in June. Thank you Jonathan Lehr and the rest of the NY Enterprise Tech Meetup team for last night's event. I look forward to attending future ones.
My tech journey continues!
