In the second of what I hope to be a long series, I interview another great HR Rock Star-Traci Deveau. Traci currently resides in Florida and is a multi-talented professional with over 15 years of experience. She also has a huge Twitter following. But don't take my word for it; check out her Linkedin profile to learn more about her.
Now, I present to you, Traci Deveau!
Who are you and what makes you a HR rock star?

I think what separates a rock star HR professional from the fray is their approach to the position. The rock stars aren't happy with being paper pushing administrators, they push the envelope and truly become strategic partners to the organization by aligning their goals and Now, I present to you, Traci Deveau!
Who are you and what makes you a HR rock star?
You have a rich resume, what type of work do you enjoy the most?
I love interacting with people. I'm so appreciative of my past opportunities because I think it gives me a unique knowledge base to build upon. I thrive when I’m handed a challenging situation and the task is figuring out the core issue and designing a blend of solutions and strategies to address them. I’m naturally consultative and love to help people.
Tell the readers about volunteering at HR Florida State Council. What was that experience like?
Wow! Volunteering for HR Florida changed my life. It was probably the most personally satisfying experience in my life. It was hard work, very hard work but the rewards and sense of accomplishment made it well worth the time. I met some amazing people during the three years I volunteered and many of them are now my closest friends. We were very fortunate and accomplished so much for the benefit of the human resources profession. We set records from a revenue perspective and truly elevated the organization by putting on a state conference that provided a world-class learning environment for the human resources professionals in our state. I’m so proud I was a small part of it. I encourage everyone to get involved and make a difference…you’ll be so glad you did.
Why Twitter? What benefits have you seen from using social media?
Twitter connects people. Where else can you have real-time conversation with people from all over the world in 140 characters or less? Seriously, I’ve met some truly inspiring people on Twitter. I’ve grown as a person and a professional through these friendships. People call you on your bad behavior, challenge you, and SUPPORT you when you need it most. Twitter is a pretty special social network and I’m especially blessed with an amazing twitter follow-stream.
HR pros talk about having a "seat at the table." What does that mean to you?
It means being an integral part of the overall strategic objectives of the organization by aligning the human resources goals and objectives with that of the business. A truly successful organization aligns their succession planning, recruitment, retention, and training objectives with those of the company. People are the most important aspect of success. If you disagree, take a look at an organization that recruits and retains B talent--they are the companies known for poor quality standards, customer service and performance.
How do you stay up-to-date with HR related trends?
I stay up-to-date by attending conferences, workshops, and seminars as well as keeping up on various websites like SHRM that provides a plethora of timely information. I also find the various social media sites are a great source of up to the minute information on legal issues and matters that need our attention, feedback and action. It’s hard to remember when this information wasn’t at our fingertips.
What advice would you give to new HR managers or those interested in entering the field?
It all boils down to what I’ve already said, keep learning, align yourself with smart people, don't be afraid to ask questions, be consistent/fair and above all…treat people with compassion and respect.
